during my travel to various south indian cities i have touched chennai railway station so many times but i never got a chance to spend some time in chennai. It was always getting down from one train running to catch the next. An all pervading stench was another deterrant. In the past ten years there has been a rapid improvement in the infrastructure. The government has introduced many steps to make travel easier and environment cleaner. Tamil Nadu is one state where transportation facilities are coordinated and reaching a remote area is not a big thing any more. Better transportation has also changed the living conditions of the people, awareness and education levels.
even from a distance stench from coovam river overpowers you and makes you alert that you are nearing the city(less now). Chennai is an onslaught on your senses, olfactory, skin, eyes, emotions, GIT, purse and what not. The cuisines, the flower decked females, the abject poverty, the chaotic traffic, the money spend by people on shopping, mind boggling disparity in wealth and almost God like worshipping of matinee idols all new sensations. If you stop wrinkling your nose and bravely stepin it can turn out to be a memorable experience. |
