| | LÆSØ - FACTS Læsø is the biggest island (118 km²) in the Kattegat, but also the youngest island in Denmark with no more than 3000 years. The island is located 19km from the main land and has a population of a little more than 2000 citizens. Its coast stretches for 100km of which 25km is good bathing beach.
The ground water on Læsø can reach over 15 percent salt, so the first industry was the salt industry in the Middle Ages. There is still a small salt production, but only as an archaeological experiment and a tourist attraction. Tourism and fishing are important industries today, and Læsø is the biggest exporter of langoustines in Europe.

| | MY VISIT I visited Læsø on a day trip from Frederikshavn. I took the ferry around 8am and went home from Læsø at 3:30pm. This gave me half a day to explore Læsø and this was enough time to see the western part on a rented bicycle.
Læsø took me by surprise… It is a very beautiful island with a unique nature – especially around Rønnerne. Læsø was also a quiet place and I only met a few cars outside the cities. I must come back some day to see the eastern part of the island as well…
