| | SOSŁA - FACTS Sosła is a small town at the North Coast of the Dominican Republic, located approximately 25km east of Puerto Plata and 15km from the International Airport.
The town is divided into two areas: Los Charamicos and El Batey. Los Charamicos is where the Dominicans live and El Batey is the tourist area. El Batey was founded by 500 German and Austrian Jewish refugees during World War II. Descendants of the original settlers still live in Sosła, where they maintain a synagogue and a museum.
Sosła has been a top tourist destination since the1970's and 1980's then many hotels were built. After a period with a bad reputation, tourism is increasing again and new hotels have been built during the last few years.

| | MY VISIT I have been to Sosła twice; in 2004 and 2008. In 2004, I stayed 4 days at the Casa Marina Reef Resort (all-inclusive) in the centre of Sosła. The Case Marina Reef was a nice place with several restaurants and bars and a nightclub inside the resort area, but after 4 days it was enough for me and had to move on. Resorts are a great place to relax a few days, but not the place if you want to experience the real Dominican Republic
In 2008, I just had a quick stop in Sosła, but didnt stay overnight.
Sosła is not my favourite place in the Dominican Republic. Too many tourists; instead I like the old town of Puerto Plata when Im at the North Coast.
