"BÙZIOS" Bùzios by ValbyDK

Until the early 1960s, Bùzios was just a small fishing village, but that changed when Brigitte Bardot fell in love with the town. Tourism began to flourish and hotels, sophisticated restaurants, bars, and modern boutiques popped up everywhere.

I visited Bùzios for a couple of days back in 2003, and stayed at a small hotel (forgotten the name) in the centre of town. I arrived by bus from Rio, a 175 km and 3 hours long trip, but a nice ride through a beautiful landscape. The buses for Bùzios depart from the central bus station in Rio, and there are several direct buses daily.

Bùzios is famous for its lovely beaches and the crystal-clear water. There are more than 25 beaches around town and many opportunities for windsurfing, scuba diving, snorkelling, fishing, etc. I just hang out at the beaches and had some fun in the night life. Many cruise ships come to anchor at Bùzios and the bars were full of fun-loving people.

Bùzios was a nice and fun place, but the prices were much more expensive than in the rest of Brazil. A couple of days were enough for me…
