Málaga. Spain

Artists, Poets and Montaditos!

Peppers drying.
What springs to mind when someone mentions Malaga? Is it Picasso, sweet wine, fried fish or Antonio Banderas? Im in love with them all and thats why I chose to live in the north of this beautiful province of Andalucia, southern Spain.
Theres something about a sea side city thats special. All cities buzz or should do, but Malaga buzzes at her own speed. Take a gentle stroll down the tree lined Ramblas, the Avenida de Andalucia or Calle Larios a pedestrianised shoppers delight. Or wander through the fish and veg market on a weekday morning and see things that you didnt know you could eat! Cross over to the port and watch the cruise liners sidling up to huge cargo ships all jostling for prime location on the waterfront, and then just another half a mile and you´re on the beach with little chiriguitos (cafes) cooking sardines over an open fire usully in an old wooden rowing boat! Such diversity in a short walking distance, and theres no other way to see this beautiful city than by foot.
Málaga famous son.

Mother Málaga

Málaga has been the mother to some very special and famous people. The most famous being Pablo Ruiz Picasso...born in Málaga in 1881 and died in Mougins France in 1973. Málaga city houses one of the newest and biggest art museums dedicated to Picasso.
My favourite Malagüeño has got to be Antonio Banderas star of stage and screen and equally as famous across the Atlantic. Antonio has Málaga running thru him like a stick of rock and will always return to his mother country whenever the magical Easter processions start so that he can don his black cloak and hood and join his brothers in carrying the magnificent statues of the Virgen and Christ through the incense filled streets of the city. Born in Benalmadena in 1960 and is married to the American actress Melanie Griffith.
Fruit and Veg Market

Healthy eating

They say the southern Spain diet is one of the healthiest in the world with its wonderful olive oils, fresh, fresh fruits and vegetables and fish straight from the sea. Even the naughty cakes and desserts can convince you that they are good for you!
Im fortunate enough to live out in the country and have many fruit trees on my land. Cherries have just ripened and its been a battle to pick them before either the birds get at them or my dogs do! yes they are the biggest fruit fans going and will stand up to a tree and just help themselves..and they spit the pips out. The apricots are a little safer and higher, but come Septemeber it will be a battle again over the figs and almonds.

By the way....whats a montadito?...its a tiny bread roll that fits in the palm of your hand full of delicious, interesting fillings...like anchovies, sobrasada, ham and cheese, grilled chicken etc.etc.

Can I drive my car to Malaga? How far to drive from Madrid? How do I get from Malaga to Africa? (I get sea-sick, so I'd have to take drugs on a boat.)
