Why didnt I like it? | Highest point in Thailand |
Just a 50 minute flight from Bangkok brought us to our final destination of our first asian trip..Chiang Mai, northern Thailand. We fell in love with Bangkok immediately, adored Krabi and AO Nang beach but somehow we just couldnt take to Chiang Mai. A vast bustling city that seemed to be so much busier than Bangkok...if thats possible..but it felt neglected and in need of attention. The streets were so full of people that it was impossible to walk any faster than a snails pace. The roads were crammed with vehicles nose to tail....overflowing songthews, spluttering tuk tuks and bright new flashy cars, all fought their way for the next available gap on the main road, identical to Bangkok, but not the same. The night market was in full swing when we arrived with thousands of little stalls either selling goods or cooking food. Northern hilltribes women wandered in and out of the crowds in their strange bright coloured national clothes selling their wares and their children did likewise on the other side of the street. A little boy of no more than 4years old with a handful of leather bangles approached everyone. We stooped to buy from him...he was adorable and totally alone. So why didnt I like Chiang Mai? I really dont know but it just didnt feel right: |
