"Chambord - Just a little hunting lodge" Chambord by Herkbert

Chambord Travel Guide: 92 reviews and 303 photos

Ah yes, just a little hunting lodge with over 400 rooms and 350 fireplaces. Must have been some wild games or wild game there a lot of the time.

This is King Francois I's monument to architecture. From its design to its completion it truly is a wonder. Check out the rooms, the balconies, the fireplaces, the double-helix staircase and marvel at its sheer size. Even if you don't get excited by the architecture, the grounds and surrounding forest are quite delightful.

In actuality, it was probably more of a public works construction project at the time. it took about twenty years to complete and employed around 1,800 workers and craftsmen.

Don't forget the outside.

Chambord is one of the largest walled palaces in Europe. If my memory serves me correctly, the wall is around 32 km long.
