The changing face of Netanya | Ocean view from the cliffs at Netanya |
Netanya is a city to relax in and has a mild climate. Its main claim to beauty is the fine sea view. Sometimes the sunsets are magnificent. There are attractive cliff gardens overlooking the golden beaches of the Mediterranean Sea. The beaches can be reached by an elevator for those who don't want to use the steps.
There are many cafes throughout the town, for relaxing and savoring a meal, or a good cup of coffee, or an Italian type icecream. As there is quite a large English and French speaking population, these languages can be heard in cafes frequented by them. Herzl Street, the main street, cuts through the city and ends at the pedestrian thoroughfares near the cliff gardens. It is full of small shops and great for browsing.
A new modern entertainment area - the Yakhin Center - has recently been opened in the southern part of town, where bars, cafes, speciality shops and cinemas can be found.
The most interesting places to visit in Netanya itself can be enjoyed in the spring. There is a protected area with rare irises and other plants and also a winter rainpool in the Poleg area. Netanya is within easy driving distance of Caesaria, an interesting city, dating from ancient times.
Although there are not many places of historical interest in Netanya itself, it is within easy reach of all the main cities in Israel, such as Tel Aviv, Haifa and the North. There are two train stations in Netanya and one can travel to these places quickly, easily and at attractive prices |
