MEDULIN, a town in the extreme south of Istria, 11km southeast of Pula, on the north-eastern part of the well-indented Medulin Bay. Chief occupations are farming, fishing and tourism. Sandy bottom, the pine forest on the penninsula south of the town and a relatively easy access have accounted for development of tourism. The protected Medulin Bay is ideal for camping and swimming, so that one of the most beutiful camp in Istria is the camp Medulin. The Vizula Penninsula fetures the ruins of a Roman country villa and antique graves. Prehistoric hill-forts (stone fortification) can be found on the hill Vrcevan and Cape Kasteja (Punta Kasteja). The parish church of St. Agnes keeps a silver –plated processional cross from the 15th century. Once a farmer’s and fishermen’s village, the present Medulin is one of the most important tourist resorts in southern Istria. The coast of Medulin is low, sandy and well-indented. The Medulin archipelago, with its ten islets and the coastal phenomenon called “primosten” or “tombolo”, represents a special natural attraction, together with its lavish vegetation cover and extremely favorable climate.

When visiting one of the restaurants be sure to order a typical, local dish. You surely won't regret it. Istrian cuisine is healthy and diverse. Strong Italian, German and Slavic influences are felt, but Istrian cuisine also reflects the Mediterranean setting. Traditional dishes are stronly influenced by the agricultural tradition of Istria.
You can taste the influence of cuisines typical of Trieste and Venice in restaurants along the coast, serving mostly shellfish in exquisite combinations with pasta or rice. Top quality fish is prepared grilled or oven baked with potatoes. If you choose a seafood restaurant, begin your meal by ordering fish soup. As a starter you can try black cuttlefish risotto or crab salad. An excellent choice is one of the many types of shells prepared "buzara" style or with pasta, but lobster with noodles is definitely the top choice. Which fish to order as the main dish depends on the taste, but you won't make a mistake by choosing sole, scorpionfish, sea bass or gilthead. If you happen to be in Medulin, the Brodetto festival is organized in August. Grilled pilchard at a Fisherman's festival will surely be a pleasant surprise since it is a delicious, yet simple healthy and inexpensive specialty.

A characteristic feature of the Medulin riviera is surely its diversity. Visitors can choose sandy, rocky, pebbly beaches or those with cliffs. There are also beaches with showers, folding chairs and rich sports offer or one of the many secluded coves where you can enjoy the enchanting nature and crystal-clear sea. Nature has been generous. The special characteristic of these beaches are pine trees protecting from the hot midday sun where you can relax with the chirping of crickets.
Don't miss visiting the protected area of Kamenjak. Choose one of the numerous coves along the 30-kilometer-long coastline of the peninsula. The crystal-clear sea is of a special color and taste here. You can reach Kamenjak by car, bike or boat. An entrance fee is charged only for visitors arriving by car, and since this is a protected landscape all cars must leave Cape Kamenjak by 9 pm. Medulin's sandy beach Bijeca is especially attractive for families with young children: there are water slides for plenty of fun all day long.
