CAPE TOWN -

THE FAIREST CAPE

Overlooking Chapman Bay towards Hout Bay
Cape Town is one of South Africa's shining jewels and there is so much more to this impressive city than the famous Table Mountain. I've spent a couple of holidays down in Cape Town and most recently stayed in Kommetjie. The photo above is from the cottage in Kommetjie looking across to Hout Bay. The beaches in the area are superb with the 4km long Noorhoek Beach one of the most impressive. The rich and famous plump for Camps Bay and Clifton Beach, both of which are beautiful pearl white beaches and are in spectacular settings.
The Impressive Great White Shark

CLOSE ENCOUNTERS WITH THE GREAT WHITE SHARKS

Cape Town is both infamous and famous for the large number of Great White sharks that are found in the cold waters off the Cape. I spent a number of wonderful hours floating in a cage off Gansbaai watching these impressive beasts and it was an experience that I won't forget for a very long time. I know there are arguments for and against this form of 'marine tourism' but in terms of an education it was a great classroom and I know that I learnt to respect these great animals more and fear them a lot less.

WHAT TO DO

With the wonderful beaches and plenty of nature reserves Cape Town is blessed with many good spots to go walking or hiking. A trip to Cape Point is worth the drive as is a drive out to Stellenbosch to enjoy the numerous world class wines that are to be found at the many wines estates. The Victoria and Alfred Waterfront is an interesting place to do some shopping and have a meal with the picturesque Table Mountain as the perfect backdrop for an evening drink.
