DAHAB - JEWEL OF THE SINAI

This is the life!!!

The bay just after sun set
Mon 24/04/06: I was shocked to hear that this amazing place has been targeted by some cowardly, small-minded individuals who have little regard for fellow human beings. To all the families who have experienced a loss my heart goes out to you. I hope that peace will prevail.

Dahab holds a very special appeal for me and its not all about the diving. The town while no longer the small hippy destination of the 70s is still a great place to kick back and relax. On a couple of occasions I have spent hours living on a lounger in one of the water side restaurants sipping on my fruit shake while reading a good book. Its the type of place where you can really unwind (if you ignore the couple of kids peddling their homemade bracelets). And of course there is the diving..... more about that in my tips and things to do section. I have been to Dahab twice and eagerly look forward to my next trip there.

Kitting up at Shark Cave dive site

Top class scuba diving

Kerry wisely chose Dahab as the place to do her PADI Openwater dive qualification. The conditions are usually calm and the diving is very easy going, no tough dive entries and of course the coral and aquatic life are out of this world. For those who have an advanced dive qualification there are a couple of more challenging dives just a little north of Dahab. They are the Canyon and the Famous or imfamous Blue Hole. Both are superb. Theres much more about the diving and the dive sites in my tips section.

Fresh fruit and veg

I really enjoyed tucking into some some fresh fruit, bread and dips after a day's diving. The restaurants are great and part of the Dahab experience, be sure to try the banana milkshakes. And don't be put off by the 'over-zealous' restaurant staff, they are a good laugh and always enjoy a chat about their place.
Another feast
