Budapest is a big city with lots to see and experience. It is hard to get a real feel for the city since it is so big and you are always taking a train or tram.
Budapest is made up of two cities separated by the Danube- Buda and Pest.
The highlights of Buda are the castle hill with Fishermans Bastion, St Matthias Church, riding the Furnicular and the castle.
The Pest side has much more to offer- Great Market Hall, Vati Utca, St Stephens Church where you can climb the tower for a great view of the city, the 2nd largest Jewish Synagogue in the world, Heroe's Square and Central Park with the Szechenyi Medicinal Baths.
Make sure to check out the bridges, they are hard to miss. The Chain Bridge is the most impressive and has giant lions protecting it on each side! |
Szechenyi Baths The Szechenyi Medicinal Baths is located in Central Park a few minutes from Heroe's Square.
Come see how locals relax in the hot pools. There is a wave pool, sprinklers and various jets shooting bubbles through the water.
We only checked out the outdoor area where 3 pools are located. They also offer saunas, massages and other services inside. |
Jewish Budapest Budapest has the 2nd largest Jewish Synagogue in the world. The temple looks similar to a church due to the architects involved in building it.
The synagogue is an amazing site to see. There is also a cemetary where Jews that perished during the holocaust were buried. Outside in the back is a Holocaust memorial tree. The "leaves" on the tree have names of people killed during the war. Upstairs is an interesting Jewish museum. |
