Rotorua is a really cool, small town with lots of Maori culture. You can visit a geothermal park, catch a Maoria show at night, visit the Buried Village, take a luge ride, go zorbing etc... |
Geothermal Parks There are many options within a 10-20 minute drive of Rotorua. We heard Te Puia was the best and we really enjoyed it.
The sulphur smell is more noticeable in the parks. We saw bubbling mud pools, geysers shooting water up in the air and sat on rocks that were warm and therepeutic.
The park has a replica Maori village and also a free tour which talks all about Maori life. |
Skyline Skyrides and luge track Take a gondola ride up Mt. Ngongotaha for a really nice view of the lake area. You can come down the mountain on a luge ( toboggan on wheels). There are three tracks to choose from. You go back up to the top on a chair lift.
You can eat at the cafe at the top and then do some of the other activities like the skyswing or check out the gift shop. |
