Many overseas Chinese in Southeast left from Amoy to start a new life. Many have returned to visit their homeland as tourist or investing in the local economy. Xiamen is a port which was forced to be open to the West and still have an island of European style buildings. |

Xiamen is also one of the closest city to Taiwan in geographical distance, historical and cultural ties.
The majority of the Penangite Chinese are Hokkien (Fujianese) and so I did sample the local food as see a similarity but still prefer Penang style. It is like comparing the original Italian pizza and American gourmet pizza. |

Back to Xiamen, it has been rated one of the top places in China to live in. Not a top 10 tourist destination in China but interesting place to spend a day or two touring if you happen to be here for business or transit to your home village or tourist destinations. |
