Being close to Penang, I have visited Hat Yai many times for a weekend trip or as stopover to other islands in Southern Thailand or even north to Bangkok.
Hat Yai is a popular place to shop, eat and for entertainment by Malaysians who drive or take package tour vans or buses especially during weekends, school holidays and public holidays.
Recently, the tourist arrivals have been affected by political unrest and isolated bombings in affedcted areas in Southern Thailand. |

My parents and relatives used to go to Hatyai for short trips, but I did not follow them then. Hopefully the situation will resolve and I may go there one day :) |
