Where the Klang River meets Gombak River

by SLLiew - last update: Dec 20, 2008

Kuala = Confluence, Lumpur = Mud

Kuala Lumpur or known as K.L. started off as a tin mining town by Kapitan Yap Ah Loy. It grew to the largest city in Malaysia as eventually the capital of Malaya when independence was gained. Later it was turned into a Federal Territority, thus no longer part of Selangor State. The new administrative capital has moved to Putra Jaya but KL is still the commercial capital of Malaysia.

This is the confluence where Klang and Gombak rivers meet.

And where Masjid Jamek is located.

KL is a big Chinatown. Petaling Street is the heart of old KL.

The other big streets are Bukit Bintang and Chow Kit.

Lovely photographs of Kuala Lumpur's skyline! Have not been to Taman Tasik Titiwangsa for a long time. Hope to visit that lake garden on our next trip back to Malaysia. ~ho & pang

Petaling Street looked to be so alive with activity. I bet there are a ton of great deals to be had all along that street.
