Batu Feringgi in Malay means "Portuguese Rock".
Feringgi has many spellings and mispellings asuch as "Ferringhi" etc.
Apparently, the Portuguese sailors had stopped by for fresh water, long long ago.
Today Batu Feringgi is the "Waikiki of Penang" with a tourist belt of hotels, restaurants and souvenir stalls along the famous beach of Batu Ferringgi.
Many Western and Japanese tourists head from the airport in the south east of the island straight to this northern beach coast on the island for sand, sun, sea and seafood.

What a delightful place. Thanks for the lovely tour!
I stayed here in 1973 in the Golden Sands Hotel. They were just building the Rasa Sayang next door. The beach was almost deserted then - not any longer.
very good transport tips
Good to know that the bus service is improving. I remember it wasn't quite tourist friendly. And I always wonder how can I tell what Chinese dialect the other person speaks?
To get a foot massage on the beach sounds wonderful! Great tips about Batu Feringgi!
Love photo of fisherman boat. What a huge cat fish! Wonderful warning tips. Enjoyed your description of the lizards and monkeys. Very helpful tips that are well written.
looks very plesant resort - nice photos.
Hi SL, I remembered visiting feringgi beach in 1994 during my university days. This is a nice place and a good getaway from the city :)
