Taiping is one the oldest town of Perak dating back to 1870s. The name "Tai Ping" means in Chinese, "Great Peace" after a war between two clan houses of immigrant Hakka and Cantonese Chinese tin miners called "Ghee Hin" and "Hai San".
Taiping wasa center for a region important in tin mining, rice planting and rubber planting. |

Taiping is laid back town with a glorious past. It was the old capital of Perak. The Taiping Museum and Taiping Prison were "first class" in those heydays of late 19th century and early 20th century. |

Taiping is cool with the lake and surrounding hills. Great place for retirement. It is located at a strategic military position and you see the past and present military prsence. |
