Taiping is one the oldest town of Perak dating back to 1870s. The name "Tai Ping" means in Chinese, "Great Peace" after a war between two clan houses of immigrant Hakka and Cantonese Chinese tin miners called "Ghee Hin" and "Hai San".

Taiping wasa center for a region important in tin mining, rice planting and rubber planting.

Taiping is laid back town with a glorious past. It was the old capital of Perak. The Taiping Museum and Taiping Prison were "first class" in those heydays of late 19th century and early 20th century.

Taiping is cool with the lake and surrounding hills. Great place for retirement. It is located at a strategic military position and you see the past and present military prsence.
