The Olympics are coming! Vancouver is my new hometown. The city is going to change a lot in the next 4 years, leading up to the 2010 Winter Olympics, cohosted with Whistler.
I think most people visit Vancouver for the scenery, but that can vary depending on the weather. |
|  | What to do in Vancouver as a tourist Vancouver On a sunny day: -Kitsilano beach -English Bay -Jericho beach for picnics, large gatherings -Stanley Park -Dr. Sun Yat Sen Gardens -Queen Elizabeth Park with Bloedel Conservatory -Burnaby Mountain Park -Capilano Suspension bridge with Treetops -Lighthouse Park, especially sunsets
Other: -Granville Island -Seabus to Lonsdale Quay in North Vancouver -Vancouver Aquarium in Stanley Park -Lynn Canyon Park with suspension bridge, an alternative to Capilano -Chinatown -Vancouver Art Gallery -Commercial Drive -Robson Street -Gastown -Yaletown -Richmond's Asian malls -Richmond's huge Buddhist Temple -Try one of the many popular innovative restaurants on Vancouver's dining scene or try a different ethnic cuisine, Vancouver is full of good food! *Vancouver is especially good for those who love sushi - here it's much cheaper and fresh!! -Ride the Skytrain out to the suburbs to see the views of the Lower Mainland

Short Trips Outside Vancouver If you can, you should spend longer than just a few days in these areas but these are places outside Vancouver that are close enough to travel for a long weekend too.
-Whistler - 2 hours north -Squamish - 1 hour north -Victoria - 90 min ferry ride from Tsawwassen -Nanaimo - 90 min ferry ride from Horseshoe Bay -pick an island - Bowen, Saltspring, Hornby, Gabriola, and many others accessible by ferry -Fraser Valley (Abbotsford, Chilliwack, Mission, Hope) - about 2 hours east -Sunshine Coast - 1 hour ferry ride from Horseshoe Bay |
