Getting TO/AROUND: The route Cajamarca-Celendin-Chachapoyas is one of the many beautiful routes through Peru. Starting in Cajamarca, some 2700 mts above sea level in the andes, youll go through mountain ranges all the way down to about just 300 meters above sea level! There you will be crossing the Rio Maraņon, one of the main affluents to the Amazonas River. Literally a furnace down here, as the wind is deflected by the mountains and these same mountains serve as mirrors to reflect the suns ray into the riverbed. You will ascend then through one more mountain range and start the descend then to the beautiful rain forest, now everywhere you look is green. Amazing. Be prepared though, as there is only one (in 2007) company doing this route, as it is easier and faster to take the highway Chiclayo-Chachapoyas. Old buses and difficult roads make for some dangerous ride but well worth it. I myself got stranded here for quite a few hours as they fixed the vehicle, but great views and nice people made the time fly by.....
