Venice Venice, to me, is an extraordinary city. Its range of activites and things to do is extensive, a 4 day trip at least is recommended. Be careful when booking accommodation. to be at St. Marks Square and the Cathedral is one thing, but I can see you regretting booking a hotel there later, as it would be incredibly difficult to access. We stayed on the other side of the island, closer to the Train/Bus Station, as we had to go to the airport and take a train after our visit, and even that was difficult to access, as you had to cross 3 canals (steps only) via steep bridges. Hopwever these bridges give Venice its own appeal. The gondolas are also quite cute swimming in and out of the canals, even though they are extremely overrated. I also recommend walking the best mode of transport: the water taxis will empty your pocket, the water busses are choccablocked that one almost hangs off it, and a gondola ride is only for rich tourists who want to sit in a Gondola traffic jam for an hour and spend 100 euros on it... A trip to Murano was recommended to us, yet we didn't have time, but the glass is very nice as jewellery, and everyone will find a mask they like in the town, with thousands of stores located all over the island. |
