Lack of over-development and commercialization on this island make you feel less like your in a tourist trap, and more like you're within an intimate NC coastal town -- which it just so happens you are!! The beaches are rarely crowded here (with the exception of major holidays). The locals are very friendly and hospitable.

Please note, however, with this privacy and a small-town atmosphere one loses the convenience and faster pace of more commercialized coastal towns. You will not find a McDonald's or a mini-golf course here, for example. You WILL find excellent food in some very unique Ma 'n Pops- type restaurants, a single grocery mart, one traffic light, and an abundance of people on "island time."

So if you're looking to slow down, relax, listen to a few quips and stories from some locals, and leisurely enjoy some time away from a busy life - this is the place to be.
