ST. THOMAS

by globetrotter_2006 - last update: Mar 6, 2007

Back in September of 2000, I took my ex girlfriend Amber to the US Virging Islands for her birthday. At the time I was living in Detroit, MI and in dying need of a vacation. I got an email from U.S. Airways with a really good flight deal to St. Thomas, so I booked it. This was my first time to the Caribbean, so I did not know much about hurracaine season. I then realized why I had gotten such a cheap flight to St. Thomas, we were going right in the middle of hurracaine season. I am not one to back out from a trip, so I monitored the Caribbean Weather for the week prior to the trip & made the decision.....all system GO !!!!!
Texas Society Chili Cookoff @ Sapphire Beach
I booked a one bedroom apartment at the Crystal Cove Resort in Sapphire Beach. We got the apartment at a very good rate, but like I said, it was hurracaine season. Regardless, we got very lucky and the sun shined all sevean days. The Resort is right next to the Crystal Cove Hotel, and they are both owned by the same company. We took advantage of the Jacuzzi in the hotel which is located at the end of a large boardwalk almost all the way in the ocean. We were also very lucky to stay in Sapphire Beach during the Texas Society Chili Cookoff. The whole resort and beach became a big party !!!

Overall, I had a great time in the US Virgin Islands. Although I did not travel to St. Croix, I must admit that I really liked St. John much better than St. Thomas. Maybe it is because of the simple fact that I got to go beach hopping on the zodiac,
and that St. John is not nearly as commercialized as St. Thomas. Regardless, both Islands were lots of fun. The sun shined all seven days, and the only thing I regret is not having a digital camera, but truth be told, back in 2000, digital cameras where more of a luxuary than anything else. I now have to find the time to scan the little pictures that I have and post them when I get time. More to come.....
