This past December '05, my good College friend Harry and I decided to go to Dublin, Ireland for New Years Eve. I had been in Dublin back in the summer of 1998 while I was backpacking through Europe, and although I was only there for a couple of days, I enjoyed myself very much. It is amazing how much Dublin has come along since I first visited. Dublin is now a major economic player in Europe, and I recently noticed how expensive of a city it is becoming.
Besides having a rich history, friendly people, and great nightlife, Harry & I had our own reasons for coming to Dublin. Harry wanted to take a religious pilgramage to Knock, and I wanted to catch up with my good friend Charlie whom I grew up in Madrid with. We were able to do both. It took us four and a half hours each way to get to Knock to visit the shrine, but it was a well worth experience. One day after visiting the Guiness Storehouse, we were able to meet my friend Charlie & his wife for lunch @ Ryan's Pub. It was great to catch up with him since the last time I saw him was sometime in the mid-1980s.
While in Dublin, aproximately 5 days, we had the opportunity to see the most famous Irish Pubs in Dublin. As a matter of fact, we went to 21 Pubs in 5 days, quite the adventure. We also visited Trinity College, St. Stephen's Green, St. Patricks Cathedral, Temple Bar (of course), and the North Side of Dublin. We met a very nice local that is always located next to the Statue of Molly Malone, and for a nice tip he will tell you all about her story. I am looking forward to visiting Dublin, but next time will be in the summer time in order to enjoy the outdoor cafes.

You're spot on with that comment. Dublin is getting more expensive - I find it that way everytime I go home. Lovely page on Dublin and a nice comment on my old University.
I will be passing through there on Saturday on my way to Wexford, Dublin is a great city.
21 nightlife tips.... wow... i doubt you were sober on any of those 5 days you spent in dublin ;p
Such a bummer that you missed the Auld Dubliner and Hairy Lemon bars. These were my absolute favorites! Love the page. :o)
Ireland, and Dublin, are very high on my list of places to visit. Interesting photos and tips which I hope to use. The warning about the hotel may come in handy.
