Kuching is a very interesting city in Sarawak. Globe & Mail(Canadian newspaper) had an article about Kuching, and they spelled Kuching as "Ku Ching". Kuching, in Malay, means "CAT". Typical of the Northern American, and ex-colonial mentality if there are chinese population in a country, it must be chinese--another "Chinese Syndrome". The chinese may have certain influences on the Bornean culture, but folks, the people of Borneo are not chinese. They may look like chinese, they are not chinese.

This is a worthwhile museum to attend, located at JALAN TUN ABANG HAJI OPENG. Completed in 1891, the Museum was extended in 1911.
Repository of Bornean culture, the Sarawak Museum is also engaging in academic research such as the excavations at Niah Caves (40,000 years old).

Sarawak Islamic Museum is nearby.

Built in 1879 as a detention camp for prisoners, the Square Tower was later converted into a fortress and then a dance hall. Today it is a multimedia information centre and video theatre providing information on Sarawak's tourist attractions.
