It is said that Ocho Rios, is the garden of Jamaica and the place where, heaven spills into the sea.
Jamaica is about the size of Connecticut and is one of the largest islands in the Caribbean. It is located on the north coast of the island. Jamaica is 90 miles south of Cuba.
The Locals call Ocho Rios, "Ochee" for short.
Ochee has a very sweet smell that flows through the air. The average year round temperature is 85 degrees.
When Jamaica was discovered, Arawak Indians were living in villages there and they called the island "Xaymaca", meaning land of wood and water.
Kingston became the capital of Jamaica in 1872.

Ackee Fruit

Ackee is a fruit that was brought in from Africa to feed the slaves working on the Sugar Plantation. Ackee was used to preserve the meat and fish, slaves could be fed cheaply.
Today the national dish is ackee and saltfish. Ackee resembles scrambled eggs when it is cooked.
