In the city of Romulus and Remus

by Josefin_1 - last update: Feb 10, 2008

Captured in my heart

Scalinata della Trinità dei Monti
Roma - the eternal city - it sounds so strange to say something is eternal, witnessing the life we are living now, yet Rome is eternal and great!
I dont know if we had pure luck with our trip to Rome or just the organization was good :)...still wondering but it is a fact that in that chaotic capital of the beatiful country of Italy I were fine and at the place i wanted to be.
Flying from Sofia to Roma Ciampino with a low cost flight (50euros both ways) was nothing different than flying with a normal flight , just the price! My thoughts of Rome when getting on the plane - is it going to move me?
Landing with much excitement, we waited really short for all our luggage and headed to the bus stop where buses lead you from Ciampino to the first station of the metro. It was really easy to orientate, may be because italians and bulgarians have something in common, or may be just because nothing in my country is that easy and well written. If you manage to be safe in Bulgaria and never get lost on the streets , no other country can suprise you or be difficult to understand :) test yourself in my city haha...
Frankly said, Plovdiv(my city) is getting close to a perfect tourist destination - you can even find the name of the streets written on the right place and in latin letters, isnt that amazing !
Rome of course has all that and beyond, because somehow money is enough not only for the politicians' families but for the city itself.
We slept in the so called "old town" of Rome, although i think that is unnecessary to be said because the whole city is full of history and great monuments. From the view from our hired apartment we could see the feet of the people walking on the street (ground floor in italy is underground i guess haha) but I needed no windows to be happy since my eyes are windows of the Earth.
And it was a safe-budget trip so the apartment was pleasant for the price we paid lol.
I wonder how the city looks in all seasons - is it that charming in winter when everything is asleep, is it awake? perhaps.
What if Rome consist of no people just for a day - no cars, busses,tourists...i think i would be able to smell the air of the old times. Not that i am craving for the old times, but Rome deserves to be conservated.
