It Welcome to Malmo - Sweden | Bike....Bikes....Bicycles in Malmo |
It was my first time to visit Sweden in March 2006. I was billeted at the Sct Thomas Hotel in Copenhagen and I thought of travelling to Malmo as it is of very short distance. I have booked for a bus trip to Malmo that is coming back to Copenhagen the same day. I was impressed on how the city has progressed. Malmo was not known to me before, but Stockholm does. To me, Malmo is of simple setting but is excellent for shopping. I have made a long walk on its major department stores and shopping centres while shopping for items which I thought can only be found in Malmo.
Sweden's third largest city Malmö has always been characterized by a somewhat different, more "continental" atmosphere compared with the country's other larger towns. For much of its long history, Malmö was a Danish city. An ancient trade hub and agricultural centre, Malmö became an important industrial city during the nineteenth century, with the commercial port and shipyards influencing the city's temperament and seafront appearance.
The mighty Öresund Bridge opened in 2000, which connects Malmö with Denmark's capital Copenhagen, just twenty minutes away, forming a single bi-national metropolitan area, one of the most expansive, exciting and energetic in Northern Europe.
There is actually so much to see in Malmo. You can be in the city centre and in the beach as well. The Ribersborg is a 2-kilometre sandy beach which I learned that people come at summertime to do swimming, barbecuing, and just simply jogging. That is one thing I have noticed in Malmo. We also do exactly the same thing in Toronto. We also have fine beaches in the city. Residents also speak different languages that revealed their roots and origin. No matter how similar Malmo to Toronto, it still is special in its own way. My views and tips on my short visit to the city will be presented and shared with you in detail.
The time I spent in Malmo is not enough. I know I have to go back and see what else the city can offer. I know there are a lot more....... |

Stephen-KarenConn Sun Apr 13, 2008 02:56 UTC Sweden is another country high on the list of places I dream of seeing. Glad to see you've been there. | travelfrosch Thu Apr 19, 2007 01:59 UTC Hi, Freddie! Thanks for visiting my Stockholm page, and for your kind words. Very interesting tips on Malmö, a city I admittedly passed through without stopping on the way from Denmark to Stockholm. I must come back here someday! 8) Cheers, Mark | sim1 Sun Jun 11, 2006 21:10 UTC You've been to Sweden!
