Our 2nd Trip to Turkey

by Suzze - last update: Oct 8, 2008

This time it was in Turgutreis

View of our walk in to the local town
Have just got back from a very relaxing week in Turgutreis, didn't do hardly anything but just enjoy the sun which was very welcoming as living in England you don't get to see much of it! It was just a get away from it all break which my hubbie needed. We just lazed around in the sun mostly and also did a bit of walking about taking in our local surroundings which we like to do. We like to meet with the locals and eat and drink in various places, and try to learn about where we are from them. The locals are very friendly and make you laugh allot, they just all seem so happy and chilled. Something we should all learn from them I think at times.
Turgutries which looks to me a bit like going back in time, we saw some very old places, which some are still lived and worked in and some have just been left to go to pot. It looks as if it's trying to come up to date now with some new hotels and promanades. In a way a shame, but needs must if this place is going to draw the people in.
The little town of Turgutries is very quaint and has lots of little streets with your usual shops, and the people that run them are not too overbearing with there banter for you to buy from them!
It was nice to see along our walk along the promanade that they have some really small hotels right on the beach. Something you don't see very often. They all looked very well kept and some looked really quaint.
There are a few lovely little bars and restaurants along the seafront, and it's quite tranquil sitting there, people watching and taking in the lovely calm sea that surrounds you.
There are a few stray dogs about when you are walking around the town, but I have to say they are not threatning and tend to just follow you about for a while! It didn't bother us as we have both had dogs and love them. We made a point of not stroking them and just basicly ignoring them as you don't know what they are capable of doing. Having said that they all seemed very friendly and calm. I later learned that they have mostly a green tag put into there ears, it is done just for the strays and apparently it calms them and it's also a vaccination against all the diseases we believe. I was quite impressed by that, so it safeguards the public.

What I also liked about this place it wasn't too commercialised, I hope it never will be as it would be such a shame to spoil what is already there.
This little restaurant was right opposite our hotel, run by a family. They didn't seem to be doing much trade while we were there which is a shame, it was closed allot of the time too. They have a massive garden out the back which made you think this is how it used to be years ago.

The Marina

We could not get any further than this point when we saw which looks like a fairly new marina. Lots of expensive yachts and boats there.

Pros:"Very uncommercialised"
Cons:"It's not cheap to eat or drink there anymore!"

Thankyou for Airport food warning. That price they charged is disgusting! Everybody should blackball it, then their prices would have to come down.

Hi Sue, thanks for the airport warning. BTW you will never find steaks in Europe or the Med cities like you do in the US, UK or South Africa.
