The start of our adventure on this lovely island We had a wonderful stay in Koh Saumi, but the only thing that got in the way at times was the rain! It did not ruin our stay here as it was on and off, but we did get quite wet at times! The rainy season was supposed to be over by the time we arrived............not so. We hired a bike for the day and yes you guessed, it poured hard on and off all day! Having said that though we had a allot of fun and made the best of it. Only once did we have to run for shelter as the roads were getting quite deep, and were looking more like a river! We ended up having to buy poncho's to try and keep a little bit dry. When the rain did stop the sun would burst through for a while and then it would start again. No chance of getting a tan that day.
We did cram allot of stuff on the week we were there and shall be putting allot of it on the tips pages. Our hotel was a bit out of the way so the only downside to that was we had to either rely on the free shuttle service to and from the main strip of Chewang or get taxi's which proved to be a bit expensive doing it a few times. There was not much going on at our hotel so we tended to go out allot, and it was cheaper.
There were allot of bars and restuarants along the beach where we staying which were ok, nice and cheap but if you wanted to go somewhere a bit more refined you had to go to the main strip, where there was an abundance of lovely places to eat and drink.
We did a couple of trips which were really good. We did the all day jungle safari which was a very full on day and the other trip we did was a day trip to Angthong Marine Park where The Beach was filmed, a very beautiful place to go and see.
The sad thing was I did not get aquainted with my sunbed very much as we were out and about allot and when I did decide to lay my bod in the sun it would decide to rain now and again. The only good thing about this was that while it rained we had lots of massages, heaven! Really miss them now I'm back.
Despite the rain we had, we did come home with a tan!! |
| | Big Buddah In between the rain on our bike this day we drove to Bophut to view the Big Buddah and the other temples. It was very flooded to say the least but we were wet anyway so it didn't really matter! You have to take your shoes off at the bottom of these steps before your descent up to the top. There are allot of little souvinere shops and lovely shoe stalls too! A couple of little places to eat to if your peckish. I brought my baby grandaughter two gorgeous dresses here. |
The Monks These Monks were praying at the bottom of the Big Buddah
