I've been to KK three times, but only for this third time that I had my exclusive time to explore KK. My previous 2 visits are due to business purposes and therefore i do not see much of it.
To me KK is one of the most beautiful state to visit. I recall my first visit in 1999, KK is just like a cowboy town. The road is bad, no street light, no road signs and it is all confusing. When I come again in 2005, I can see that there's a lot of facilities and i'm so happy to see that the town has become so interesting.
My recent visit to KK this month really opened my eyes of how lucky KK is. It has everything that every place in this world would die to have. KK has everything, the mountain, islands, beaches...it even have the most beautiful university in the world. Simply amazing......
If you want to escape from the bustling city, just get a boat ride at the Jesselton Point Jetty and in 20 minutes, you will arrive in heaven.... there's a few island namely Gaya, Manukan, Sapi and Mamutik. Just choose your destination... the most popular island is Manukan. You can go there for day trip or stay over night. They have good facilities like chalets and restaurant. Boat transfer to one island may cost you about RM23 and if you choose to go to 2 island or more the fare is about RM45 and above.
Be prepared to pay conservation fee ranging from RM3 for local adults dan RM1 for local kid above 6 years when you reach the Island. Foreign tourist may pay slightly more.
Monsopiad is a name of a Kadazan warrior who happened to live 300 years back. In order to preserved the culture of the Kadazan people, the Monsopiad Cultural Village is being established a few years ago. Most of my friends who stayed in Kota Kinabalu have not been here yet. So... I'm ahead of them.
This village is situated in Penampang area which is about 20 minutes away from the city of Kota Kinabalu. It is difficult to get here by public transport. The most easiet way is to get a cab which will cost you RM30 per trip. Then get the cab to pick you up after 2 hours with a charge of another RM30. Even not all cabs know this place. From 4 cabs that we asked, only one cab know to get us there.
Entrance fee is RM30 for adults. There will be Kadazan Cultural Show at 11am-2pm-4pm. There will also be a tour guide to explain to you of the Kadazan culture and tradition. They are gorgeous too...
To me it is worth visiting the Monsopiad Cultural Village. I really gain more knowledge about the Kadazan people of Sabah. You will not know anything about Kadazan people until you came here. When you know about Kadazan People... I can say you already know 50% of the Sabah Culture because the Kadazan people is the biggest ethnic group here.
- Pros:where you can explore all nature, cheap seafood!
- Cons:Public Toilet yukkss..
- In a nutshell:Like being in heaven...
