From Ramnicu Valcea to the north the highway runsparallel to the Olt river through Govora, Caciulata, Calimanesti - a chain of spas famous for their mineral water springs and known from the romans and dacs ages. Close by, Cozia Monastery lives its serene centuries-old monastic life. Ramnicu Valcea, the county seat, was attested by documents in 1290. The Palace of Culture, set up in the 'Goethean' building from 1906 of the former Law Court. It houses the County Museum of History and Archaeology, set up in 1951. The furrier's trade is the traditional pursuit of the inhabitants of Valcea county, to these days.
