Welcome to Jordan! I lived here for two and a half years (1999-2001), alhumduAllah, working with the United States Peace Corps. Overall, I loved it! It's a fascinating place to live, especially as a western woman. The people are incredibly friendly to strangers, it's fairly cheap to stay and to eat, and the tourism industry hasn't developed enough for you to get harrassed as much as you will in other, tourist-rich areas.
This picture is one of my favorites, although it's not really typical of Jordan. It's my back yard in Bayt Yafa, and for about a week a year my whole village looked like this! That one week of beauty was well worth the rest of the dry, brown year. |
