I've read that you either love Cairo, or you hate it. Possibly both at the same time. It's an overwhelming city; noisy, smelly, full of people and vehicles moving at top speed, packed with buildings old and new. It's a city of contrasts too, ancient and modern, rich and poor - much like the rest of Egypt. But despite bewildering first impressions, it becomes a fun place to explore, and even the hassle is light-hearted for the most part. |
| | We arrived in Cairo on 7th March, and spent 5 nights here. We had a day exploring the pyramids at Dahshur, Saqqara, and Giza, visiting the Museum at Memphis on the way; a day trip to Alexandria; a few days wandering around the Islamic and Coptic areas, and, of course, the Egyptian Museum. |
| | On the 12th, we left on the night train to Aswan |
