AUCKLAND "CITY OF SAILS"

AUCKLAND HARBOUR

Harbour Bridge connecting Down Town to North Shore
After meeting my husband Geoff in a Trek America trip in the USA I came to New Zealand, got married in Auckland and live here since.
Auckland had a phenomenal development in the last 20 years mainly due to the America's Cup, changing from a kind of old fashioned, boring town into a great cosmopolitan city and a melting pot of people and cultures.
There is so much to talk about Auckland so I decided for my first page to select e few spots that attract me and I would be happy to show to visitors from overseas.

HAURAKI GULF

Auckland is situated on the Waitemata Harbour which is part of the Hauraki Gulf. This gulf is dotted with subtropical islands some inhabited, some protected as wildlife sanctuaries and all of them easily reached by ferry or kat.
The most important ones to visit are Rangitoto, Waiheke and Tiritiri Matangi.
Rangitoto formed after a volcanic eruption about 600 years ago due to his shape has become an Auckland icon. Waiheke was a paradise for hippies, greens and artists, still is but recently has also attracted the rich and the famous. Tiritiri Matangi is where one can observe a number of endangered native birds.

CLEVEDON VILLAGE AND VALLEY

If you are in the Auckland area for a short time and want to have a country experience, Clevedon is the place. Situated at about one hour driving South of down town Auckland and 20 minutes from the airport, Clevedon is famous for its vineyards - try wine tasting at Vin Alto -, green pastures, stud farms, Polo club and not to miss the Clevedon Village Farmers Market held every Sunday.
