Sicilia - Access to Active Volcanos

Etna

Moonscape - Mt Etna
The main reason to visit Sicilia for us was to visit Mt Etna and Stromboli. We were not disappointed. My best advice for Etna visitors - take warm clothes: beanie, gloves, jacket - the full kit. On the fine June day we visited, it was minus 2 with a 25 knot wind increasing the chill factor.(Felt like minus 15).
You must take the full trip - bus, cable car & 4 wheel drive bus then walk. Don't whimp out because it costs too much.
Stromboli from Panarea

Stromboli

Boat trip & an active volcano. What more could you ask for. Although we did not spend the 6 hours or so walking the return trip to the crater rim, we still enjoyed the day and night time views of the erupting volcano.

I once took a one-semester geomorphology course in college in New York. It was really fascinating (the professor was Australian, by the way), but it was a long time ago, so this looks like just the kind of refresher course I could use.
