Cruisers on the Burgundy Canal wishing to travel the whole length of the waterway are obliged to pass through Pouilly which is located at the top of the climb over the hills between the rivers flowing north and west to the English Channel and the rivers of the Saone/Rhone basin flowing south into the Med.
Interestingly a tunnel has been dug through the very top of the hills to save having to build locks.
Our first visit to Pouilly was during a cruise in 2006. We visited the centre ville to eat dinner at the Hotel de la Poste on our first night: enjoyed it so much we stayed for another three nights & tried other places.
I rode a bike to the Mason de Pays to use the internet. The Mason features regional produce and works of art from local artists and is located near the Pouilly exit from the A6 motorway on the road to Créancey. Worth a visit.

We came back in 2008 by car on a road trip around Bourgogne. There is plenty to see in the region with natural beauty, historic architecture and vineyards a-plenty.
