Looking Beyond the Champagne

Reims pronounced "R uh nce" but short and through your nose. Start with "r" growl in the back of your throat finish with "ns" thru' the nose & that will be near enough.
There is more to Reims and environs than the wine and the cathedral. Both of which have been "done to death" by other vt posters.
The position of Reims has meant it has been affected by every major European conflict & internal rift since before Roman times. Evidence of these conflicts can be found around the city. So between champagne tours take time to visit the museums.
For Military/History buffs (see tips) don't miss:
Museum of the Fort of Pompelle (WW1).
Musee de la Reddition (German Surrender to Allies)(WW2).
Don't miss Roman Reims.
Don't get me wrong the Cathedral of Notre-Dame, Former Abbey of Saint
-Remi and Palace of Tau are compulsory viewing & are rightly Heritage Listed by UNESCO. We've visited at least four times. Unless I can add something significant to what has already been posted on vt , I don't think the Cathedral will get a mention in my tips.

Like Rossini's opera characters, I have never actually been to Reims, though I've been talking about it for decades. Interesting to read about the Roman stuff and the WWII connection.
