"Saverne - gateway to Alsace" Saverne by pedroswift

The classic photograph of THE tourist site (sight) in Saverne is of the Castle of Rohan taken from across the canal in the boat moorings - preferably on a still day so there are nice reflections. Thankfully my shipmate A.T. took a better shot than I did so you would not be disappointed.

The city museum is housed in the castle and I beseech you to visit. Pick an afternoon to do so or check carefully the times of opening for the month in which you visit.

"The emblem of the town is a unicorn. Legend has it that a unicorn's horn was found in one of the nearby castles in ruins. It is more likely that a narwhal's tooth was discovered and mistaken for a unicorn's horn. However, it gave its name to the local beer : Bière de la Licorne."

So, trying the beer is obligatory! ......votre sante!
