Newport is home to the Newport Aquarium, and Mo's - a famous Oregon chain of seafood restaurants. There are lots of other interesting things here too - lots of tourist traps around here.
I found the bridges we crossed along our journey to be quite fascinating - most of them were very old and very ornate.
This is the bridge at Heceta Head Lighthouse, one of the most photographed lighthouses on the Oregon coast.

Oh well, even if everything didn't work out perfectly, it is difficult to complain about a drive along a coastline as beautiful as Oregon's! Glad you were able to enjoy both it and the architecture.
