Pride of the Village As i sheltered from the deriech rain listening to Elderslies Elders talk about the villages hero it struck me that the tone and affection they had in there voice is what makes heros .It was as though they knew him as the boy from next door .And you know what they actually did. They had a reverence in their voice ,a respect and a pride that it "wis oor wee toon that raised him ,no sum smert city loon frae Eenbru " That dramatic understatement, the non boasting boast is what is so endearing about the Scots and i just warm to their attitude sooooo much.In a morning i actually got to grips with the Scots psyche and was humbled by a small villages soul searching as to why the son of their village stood for everything they themselves intrinsically believed in |
