Parker's Only Statue

The town council of Parker decided that we should have a great piece of art that will show that the people of Parker are super patrons of the arts. We have one statue that graces Main Street on the way to the town library. This is the town's challenge to Michelangelo's statues. The mayor has a motto--"Bring 'em on Baby!"
No other statues are planned. I guess they figured that this one was good enough.

Directions: Keep looking to the right or you will miss it.

and the Buffalo Roam

The living symbol of the west is the Buffalo. They used to roam over the prairie and the Indians were able to survive by hunting them. However, they were hunted by the cowboys and hunters for their hides and became almost extinct. Only a few people thought of capturing some and breeding them back to a greater number. Now you can see them in northern Colorado and in the lower mountains when you go west from Denver.
The ones you see below are located southeast from Denver. If you are lucky, they will be visually seen along the highway.
Don't cross the fence in order to get close. These big animals, weighing over 500 pounds can be dangerous.

Take a Drive Through The Center of Parker

Parker has a main street. The founding fathers were very creative back then and called it Main Street. Amazing....
The center core of Parker is about three blocks by two blocks. You can drive through this core in 3 minutes, unless the crosswalk sign for pedestrians begins flashing.

On Sundays, they have a Farmer's Market here in the summer time.

Living with snowfall

On the third day of the big storm, I opened my garage door and found a wall of snow. This area I had shoveled clear twice the day before.
It took three hours to clean the driveway behind one car down to the street.
A large truck tried to reach our circle of homes, but was stopped by the snow depth. He slid off the road, and then he had to back up to get out.
So we will wait for the snow plow man, who will come during the night and make a path so people can get out of their driveway.
Owning a snow blower is a must! You just hope that you do not have an emergency.
It is beautiful here, especially at night.
The deer come down and wander through the snow covered meadow behind our house. One afternoon we had 34 of them. The males usually stand off by themselves, and they keep all the other deer from getting to food that they are eating. The mother deer do not help the younger ones find food. It's everybody for themselves!!!
The wind makes beautiful sculptures with the snow. I have included photos of this big storm.

Directions: If you move to Colorado you will have to get used to the snow storms. They are quite beautiful if you don't have to go to work in the morning.

Castlewood Canyon State Park

When you want to have a picnic or make a short 1 or 2 hour hike, you can go to Castlewood Canyon State Park. The part is run by the state of Colorado and has a great view of the mountain range. i have included some photos that shows a view of Pike's Peak from the trail. There are numerous trails that eventually take you down into the canyon where there is a stream that runs year round.
There are tables and fire pits to make a barbecue lunch and toilets are easy to find. There is a covered area of tables in case of too much sun, or rain, and there is also an area that groups can reserve for parties.
The park has an entrance fee of $5.00 a car. There is a souvenir shop and here you can buy booklets that discuss wildlife and history of Colorado, etc.
There are some nice rock formations and it is also nice to just sit and watch the stream at the bottom of the canyon.
There is no camping allowed and there are no showers available.

Directions: The highway is Colorado 83, and it is about 10 minutes south of Parker.
