A Touch of Old San Diego

by painterdave - last update: Nov 12, 2006

Old Town San Diego

The city of San Diego has made an effot to preserve the area where San Diego got its start. When you visit Old Town you will see the stores, houses and buildings from yesteryear. It is a refreshing change to all the theme parks that San DIego is known for.
Expect some great Mexican food on your visit. There are numerous restaurants.
Photo ops include the old church, plaza fountain area, and the many shops along the main street.
Parking in the afternoon can be elusive, so I recommend you arrive late morning and stay for lunch.
A good Mexican Breakfast can be had at Old Town Mexican Cafe--highly recommended.
There are many restaurants to choose from

Promenade at Old Town

The old town of San Diego was built around a courtyard. You can visit all the shops and museums easily in a day. Everything is pretty much free, except for the food.
Here is a photo of the northeastern promenade.
Warm and friendly looking

Southwest Style

I am always looking for interesting things to paint, and I found this a good example of something that is simple, yet speaks to the old southwest.
