South Rim Viewing

Looking down from the south rim
Words cannot describe the first time you walk up to the edge of the Grand Canyon and you see the immense beauty of it all. You are struck by the colors, the depth, the erosion and by how you can see the time line of the earth. The Grand Canyon is just plain overwhelming.
When you walk away you wish you could go back, take a folding chair and just gaze all day at this most spectacular place. Don't be in a hurry, walk along the rim, stop and let the colors change how you look at the world.

This shot was from the south rim. You can walk along, each step seems to reveal something different. Bring lots of film if you have an SLR. That and water.
Another view..

Walking along the south rim

You can take a free shuttle bus that takes you beyond where cars are allowed to go. There are numerous stops along the way, so that you can spend time in one place and then go on further down towards the end.
At the end of the line there is a snack bar where you can buy munchies, coffee and souvenirs. Be sure and go in and see the fireplace--it is incredibly designed.

Photo Moments

Plan to spend at least a whole day at the canyon. Take a bottle of water, some snacks and your camera.
You will meet travellers from all over the world. Be sure and help them out by offering to take their picture with their camera. That way they can all get in the shot. This is a great way of getting to know someone from another country and hearing what they have seen, etc.
This shot was taken in November, and there were not as many tourists as in the summer. It can snow here but this time it was warm. I didn't need a jacket.
You can also drive along the south rim and there are many places to stop for viewing.
