Went entering Shanghai's city, I got surprised with the traffic flow. Really lots of bicycles and motorized scooters moving around in the town. The traffic light system is somewhat I can't really understand, even when the light turns red, some motorist still trying to drive through it. The way of driving looks kinda rough. You can hear vehicle honking in every corner. As a Malaysian, of course we are familiar with traffic jam but the traffic jam in Shanghai is surely a new experience and not easy to be adopted by foreigner. Nevertheless, I am sure there are lots of city out there in the world that having more worst traffic flows and driver attitude compared to Shanghai.
Tourist are not advise to drive in the heart of town as its really look dangerous. But to my surprise, there are not many accident that we encountered. As far as I can remember, I only saw 2 minor bumper to bumper accident during my 6 days stay in Shanghai. Local, the drive rough and like to quarrel (by opening their car window) but they are also good in driving skill + 100% concerntrate while driving.
Another thing that I noticed, although you're driving on a straight road, priority is for those vehicle who wanted to do a 'U' turn. I think it's a rule here in China.
