Mahsuri's Mausoleum Complex
Your Langkawi trip cannot be considered complete if you are not visiting the Mahsuri's Mausoleum. A drastic statement by myself, but I believe it is the most important place to visit here in Langkawi.
I do not need to brief more about Mahsuri as I already did in my 'Knowing Mahsuri' tips. Mahsuri's Mausoleum is situated in Ulu Melaka, a district in Langkawi. Properly build by Malaysian 1st Prime Minister during his service as a District Officer here in Langkawi.
Inside the Mausoleum, you can visit Mahsuri's Tomb, Mahsuri's Well, Mahsuri's House, Gallery with video presentation of knowing Mahsuri, theater, souvenir shop, geological center (which I think is not necessary to be located inside this compound) and local snack delicacies freshly being made for visitor to buy (Kuih Peneram & Kuih Karas)
Since I frequently visited this Mausoleum from many years ago, I did notice it has been develop in stages and during my recent visit, the Mausoleum is getting wider, bigger and attractive. Its already becomes a complex. They even now selling the processed water from Mahsuri's Well to public.
Please visit the Mausoleum because Mahsuri played a very important roles in Langkawi history. Entrance fees is RM2 for adult and RM1 for children. Open daily from 8am to 630pm.
Address: Ulu Melaka, Langkawi
Are you planning to visit Langkawi with your yacht and looking for a marina? Well, Langkawi do have few marina to choose from and this in one of the newest marina. The Telaga Harbour Park.
Below is the official intro from the Telaga Harbour Management :-

There are also Fore & Aft Moorings, a 36m Landing and dedicated Fuel Dock.Depth of water is 3.5m CD on Channel) and 4.5m (CD in Basin).

8 x Fore & Aft Moorings ; 300m Lineal Dock
The berths are equipped with water and electricity in sufficient quantity for each size of berth as follows: From 16 to 200 AMP single or three phase"
Okay, what I like most about this place is because the facilities and the environment of where this harbour is situated. It is in Pantai Kok, my favourite beach with very calm waves and clean.
For those without yacht, you may also want to visit this place due to its beautiful scenery and peaceful environment. From here you can clearly see the Langkawi Cable Car crossing Gunung Mat Chincang. Few international restaurant are also here in Harbour Park, one that caught my attention is the U.S.S.R Restaurant.
Address: Lot 1, Telaga Harbour Park, Pantai Kok

Or just go to Pantai Kok and this Marina will be obviously can be seen
Situated just less than 10 minutes drive from Kuah town, this is a place that hosted more than 150 species of birds from all over the world.
There is a large cage inside here hosting some species of birds. In this cage, you may put some bird seeds on your palm and there will be a group of small parrot flying to your palm to take it. A very nice experience indeed.
Not forget to mentioned that you can also take pictures with eagle. The one that you need to pay offers 1 large Sea Eagle (White in Color) and 1 medium size Red Eagle. The Sea Eagle looks kinda fierce to me. But before you walk out this bird park, you will encounter a friendly staff offering free picture taking with a small Red Eagle. It is a very tamed eagle.
There is also a rabbit park whereby you may walk inside it and feed those rabbits.
Another great attraction here in Langkawi and children should love this place.

I do not want to elaborate more about this place, but sincerely my personal view is that, if you got any spare time while you are in Langkawi, then you might want to considering of visiting this center.
I am expecting more than just a shopping center kinda of setup as this place should at least show the tourist and visitor of how craft are being made in the traditional way not just selling & displaying craft with a shopping mall layout. Its too commercialize and do not suite the name of this place.
Malaysia & Kedah especially, do have lots of local & traditional craft to show off, so I hope the management of this center will look into this matter seriously to promote Malaysian culture and craftsmanship.
Not a must tourist spot to visit but do it if you got no where else to go. Nevertheless, one thing that I like about this place is the cleanliness of the center itself.

Black Sand Beach? Does the sand really black? Yeap, it is even.
The attraction here is just to visit and view the black sand beach. I suggest that one need to visit here even if you are here in Langkawi as I began to feel that the beach will be extincted soon in years to come as the tide already reaches almost the maximum level of beach as you can see on my attached picture. The blackness of the sand is not due to the any volcanic activity but it might due to some mixture of natural stones and sand.
Here you can do your souvenir shopping and drink fresh coconut water. It is not advisable to swim here but you do so if you want to.
There's an ancient fishing jetty nearby for you to visit even.
Address: Pantai Pasir Hitam
Tanjung Rhu is another beautiful beach with good quality of sea water for swimmer to dive in. There are few high class resort also along this beach that provide hospitality.
Situated for about 20 minutes drive from Kuah town, it is one of top beach to visit. Souvenir shops also available here but not too many. There are also some tour operators that offering sea related activities for tourist such as boating, fishing etc.
One must be careful while swimming here at Tanjung Rhu as the beach location is a nature place of swirling sea current that has recorded a few drown cases here. The water looks calm on the top but when the current start to swirl, the under current will be fast.
Most of foreigner visited Tanjung Rhu to do their tanning. This is a beach that offers good relaxation as it is not as busy as the Cenang or Tengah beach.

Langkawi Cable Car - Entrance
The Langkawi Cable Car is the world’s longest free span for a single rope cable car. Its a 2.2km ride up a 42 degree incline to the top of Mount Mat Cincang.
Situated inside the Oriental Village Langkawi, the ticket will cost RM25.00 per adult and RM18.00 per children (3 to 12 years old). During my recent visit, one that holding a MyCard will get 50% discount fees.
At the top of the mountain, you may have a clear view of Langkawi and its surrounding. A hanging bridge also is available at the top for visitors to walk on it. A spectacular view awaits once reaching at the top.
For the hanging bridge, it is kinda tiring for those who had never performs regular exercise one need to do a little bit of climbing to reach the cable car station again after going down to the hanging bridge.
Nevertheless, the cable car runs very fast and its a worth visit place in Langkawi.

Ready for Island Hopping
The Island Hopping package usually concentrate to 3 main islands surrounding Langkawi. The Island are Pulau Dayang Bunting, Pulau Beras Basah and Pulau Singa Besar.
The last time I did this acitivity was quite some years ago, errrm in 2003 if I'm not mistaken with the cost of RM45.00 per person. I bring together almost 40 participants which are all my staff & working colleagues.
From these 3 islands mentioned above, personally I think the best is the Dayang Bunting Island or Island of Pregnant Lady in English. In this island, there is a lake called Tasik Dayang Bunting or Lake of Pregnant Lady. You may do swimming in this lake and feed hundreds of catfish that lives in this lake. Here, you may not miss to encounter wild monkey and just becareful as this monkeys they are not affraid of human and may try to steal your belonging.
As for Beras Basah Island, its an island that you will be brought to and enjoy the view of the beach and do some swimming. While Singa Besar Island is actually an animal sanctuary but my trip to this island is a bit disappointing as I only saw a few animals in this island as its not well maintain. Frankly, visiting these 2 islands is not very interesting for myself, just my thought.
Anyway, to do this activity, there are many operators offering this package and it is very easy to get notice and even being approached by the operators. See my Things To Do Tips on Activity to get the latest cost for Island Hopping as I took it in November 2006.

Jetty Point is not just a jetty for ferry and boat services. It is even a shopping mall with many Duty Free shops and restaurants. There are also few travel operators & car rental booth here in Jetty Point.
The jetty of course is a terminal to ferry services from/to Kuala Kedah, Kuala Perlis, Satun, Penang and Medan.
Many improvement had been made to this jetty from basic to newly modern design that completed just a few recent years ago.
Address: Jetty Point, Kuah, Langkawi
Part of the centre of Kuah Town
Kuah is the main town here in Langkawi. It is not a big town but it is the major business centre place in Langkawi. What's in Kuah?
3) Private Clinics
4) Shops (lots of small duty free shops)
6) Budget Motel
7) Few hotels
8) Internet Cafes
9) Taxi Station
10) Post Office
11) Jetty to Kuala Kedah, Kuala Perlis, Pulau Payar, Penang & Satun
12) Tour operators & car rental offices
Kuah is situated near the sea but it is not advisable to swim here as the water is not very clean and most of the sea sand here are mixes of sand and mud. In the low tide, we can see clearly these muddy sand and also we may catch a glance of few local trapping and collecting clamp.
