Invitation from Next Door Neighbour

It was an invitation to accompany a friend that puts Pulau Kapas on my travel list. He was on a week leave and planned to go for a vacation. No others to join him, so I agreed to go with him. It was a not well planned visit either. We didn't make any reservation for this trip and even did not bought the bus ticket earlier.

On the day, just went to Puduraya and took any available bus to Kuala Terengganu. We reached Kuala Terengganu early in the morning, somewhere before 6am. Asked few locals on how to go to Marang, waited and boarded a local bus to Marang Jetty and straight away bought a speed boat ticket to Pulau Kapas.

Due to unplanned and naived state of mind, we did not consider that it was in the mid of monsoon season at that time. All the hotels are not recepting guest. Lucky for us, during our negotiations with the speedboat owner, they managed to contacted Makcik Gemuk Chalet and they were willing to accept us. Together with us, we met 4 more travellers from Kuala Lumpur that wanted to go to the Pulau Kapas.

It was a rough speedboat ride alright. The waves are tremendeous and fierced. A scary ride for all of us, like riding a rollercoaster. The one that manuever the boat and his assistant really struggling to beat the waves. Lucky for us, we safely landed in Pulau Kapas in about 30 minutes later.

Makcik Gemuk Chalet

When we reached Makcik Gemuk Chalet, the guest were only us, 6 of us. The other hotels and chalets were unoccupied & some even closed. Lucky for us, Makcik Gemuk threated us very very well indeed. The chalet are quite basic but clean and comfy.

This trip was not a 'fullboard' trip. Ain't much can be done especially during the monsoon season. We met some locals islander and they offered to bring us to a snorkeling spot. Its a no cost invitation even. They even asked us to dive using their tanks. Other than the snorkeling activity, we did nothing, just relaxing and enjoying the nature plus singing songs by the beach.
