Mayan Wonder

I love Mayan culture, so this was a dream come true for me to visit. We couldn't stay long, this was a day tip for us as cruise ship passengers, but it was so very worth it. Our guide was very nice and knew everything about his culture and Kohunlich.

History of Kohunlich

These facts are taken from my textbook: Meso America's Ancient Cities

Kohunlich is noted for its magnificent stucco masks of the Sun God, Kinich Ahau. These masks make up the lower four panels of the Pyramid of the Masks, and are noted for being the most refine and sensitive deity portrayals in all of Meso America.

Kohunlich is considered a late Preclassic Maya structure, and wasn't discovered until the late 1960's.
