"Sunny South Africa" LINSY's Profile
A beautiful city, a beautiful people! I've spent all my life in Cape Town and although I love travelling, I still love coming home! Some beautiful places around my beloved Cape Town....
A beautiful coastal town just an hours drive from Cape Town, Hermanus is the perfect spot for a bit of whale watching. The town itself is charming and filled with interesting little shops and restaurants. The whales come right into the bay, and if you're lucky enough to be dining at Bientangs Cave (set in the rocks), you'll have a close up view of these beautiful creatures. Just out of town, you could do a bit of shark cage diving too!
Montagu is a lovely country town approx 3 hours drive from Cape Town. Famed for its hot springs, the town is a worthwhile stop over during your exploration of the Overberg area. The town is quaint and full of character. Some great eateries include DIE PADSTAL set on a farm just 2 minutes out of town. Don't miss out on stocking up on some free range lamb chops and boerewors (traditional SA sausage) and trying them out on a real SA style braai. The Montagu Country hotel is highly recommended, the food and service is superb and the staff are happy to set up a little barbeque for you in the pretty gardens. The hotel has both a hot and cold pool as well as a spa treatment room. Montagu is great for hiking, rock climbing and mountain biking (for the more adventurous) and for pure relaxation, eating and savouring the great local wines.
Oudtshoorn is a rather hot and dry town famed for its ostriches, the Cango Caves and a rather nice little animal sanctuary. Well worth a side trip from your Garden Route holiday.
This is an amazing experience. Do not attempt the adventurous route If you're claustrophobic! The guides are great and the tour was very interesting. This certainly kept the kids entertained!
This was another good choice for the rest of our day in Oudtshoorn. You'll see a wide range of animals, will be able to go into a cage and be lowered into the water with some crocodiles. Dining facilities are available as are some nice splash water games for the kids to cool off!
A great two-week road trip along the Garden Route. We stayed in Sedgefield, Knysna, Plettenberg Bay and the Wilderness. Such natural beauty and loads to do for all ages!
The Knysna lagoon and Heads in the distance where the lagoon joins the Indian Ocean. The barge trip is great fun, and sails from the lagoon out to the Heads. We had lunch at the restaurant, fantastic oysters, seafood and beer!
