If you go to Syria, do not miss Aleppo Aleppo, in the north, was once a major stop along the trade route between Europe and Asia. It offers the best hotel and dining options in the country. An entire day could be spent wandering the city’s medieval covered markets, which will seduce any bargain hunter with its diverse selections and low prices. No visit to Aleppo would be complete without a visit to its citadel, which sits atop a massive man-made hill. Built in the 13th century, it was one the most impregnable medieval fortifications in the Middle East. |
